Model 6042 Legacy Origin 7/02
Axles, Drive Shafts, Wheels and Tires
5.5 WHEELS AND TIRES
The standard Model 6042 uses a welded 13.00-24 steel
wheel. An optional 15.50-25 wheel is available.
The specified size and ply rating (star rating for radial
tires) for this vehicle is 13.00-24, 12-ply for the standard
tire. The optional rock tire size and ply rating is 15.50-25,
12 ply. Make sure the replacement tire is of the same size
and ply rating (star rating for radial tires) as all the other
tires. A higher ply rating (star rating for radial tires) can be
used, but only when all four tires have the same ply
rating.
In standard configuration, the tires are filled with air only
when the vehicle leaves the factory. There is a foam fill
option available if the use of a tire-filling substance is
desired. Having tires filled has a positive effect on the
weight, stability and handling characteristics of the vehicle,
especially under load. OmniQuip does not recommend
the use of hydrofill as a tire-fill substance because of
possible environmental impact.
Large-bore valve stems are used to help expedite tire
inflation and deflation. An inner tube may be used if a tire
does not provide an airtight seal. Check tire inflation
pressures when the tires are cold. When mounting a tire
on the wheel, the tire must be mounted on the wheel
respective of the directional tread pattern of the tire; this
produces a left or right, tire and wheel assembly.
The wheel and tire assemblies must be installed with the
directional tread pattern “arrows” (Fig. 5-16, 1 and 2)
facing in the direction of forward travel.
Figure 5-16 The Tread Arrows Must Point in the
Direction of Forward Travel.
WARNING: Risk of death or serious
personal injury. Mismatched tire sizes, ply
ratings or mixing of tire types (radial tires with
bias-ply tire) may compromise vehicle stability
and may cause vehicle to tip over.
